The Snail That Lived On Our Step
28 August 2026 by Rishitha
A snail moved onto our front step in the rain. I called him Gary and I checked on him every morning for six days.
On Monday it rained all day. When we came home there was a snail on our front step, right in the middle, like he was waiting for someone.
I called him Gary. Dad said snails do not usually have names but he did not say I had to stop.
What I found out about snails
- They have thousands of tiny teeth. Thousands!
- They like the rain because dry weather makes them sleepy.
- The shell is part of them. It is not a house they can leave.
A snail can sleep for three years. I would miss too much.
On Saturday Gary was gone. I looked under all the plant pots. Mum said he probably went to find a friend, and I think that is true, because there were two shiny lines going down the path and not one.
